Wealthy Rollo Treadway, portrayed by Buster Keaton, impulsively decides to propose to his neighbor Betsy O'Brien, played by Kathryn McGuire, and dispatches his servant to arrange tickets for a honeymoon cruise to Honolulu. However, when Betsy rejects his sudden offer, Rollo insists on embarking on the journey alone, boarding the vessel without delay that evening. Due to a partially obscured pier number, he mistakenly ends up on the Navigator, a ship that Betsy's affluent father, Frederick Vroom, had recently sold to a war-torn nation. Meanwhile, agents from the opposing faction in the conflict plot to sabotage the ship, setting it adrift during the same night. When Betsy's father discovers the situation, he is unexpectedly captured and bound by the saboteurs, prompting Betsy to rush to the ship, arriving just before it is set loose.
The Navigator drifts into the vast Pacific Ocean, carrying the two unsuspecting passengers who gradually learn to navigate their precarious circumstances. After weeks of adaptation, they spot a navy ship and raise a vibrant flag, unaware that it signifies a quarantine status. As a result, the naval vessel alters its course. Eventually, the ship runs aground near a tropical island, causing a critical leak. With Rollo donning a deep-sea diving suit to patch the damage, the island's native inhabitants arrive in canoes, seizing Betsy. When Rollo resurfaces, the natives are startled, allowing him to retrieve Betsy and return her to the ship. However, the islanders soon return, attempting to board the Navigator. Amid a chaotic struggle, Rollo and Betsy flee in a small boat, only for it to begin sinking as the natives pursue them. Just as all hope seems lost, a navy submarine emerges beneath them, rescuing the pair in a dramatic twist.
